Frequently asked questions

Visa assistance
What type of visa do I need to work in Czechia?

There are several types of visas. At ThriveIn, we specialise in long-term business visas, which cover most self-employed activities and fields such as marketing or education.

How long does it take to get a visa in Czechia?

This can vary depending on the case, but it usually takes around 2–3 months to get a visa appointment, and then up to 90 days for the application to be processed.

What documents do I need to apply for a visa in Czechia?

To obtain an appointment, you need a valid reason. For a business visa, this usually means providing proof of your intended activity, such as a Letter of Intent from a future employer or client. We guide you through all the other required documentation.

Tax filing
When is the deadline to file taxes in Czechia?

Tax paperwork is due on 1 April for the previous year. If you file your taxes electronically (the preferred option), the deadline is extended to 2 May.

What documents need to be submitted for taxes in Czechia?

You need to submit a tax return (usually completed online) and documentation for Social and Health Insurance institutions showing that your required contributions have been paid. These documents are a crucial part of the service package we offer.

What discounts can I expect on my taxes in Czechia?

As a freelancer, you are entitled to a standard tax discount of around 30,000 CZK. There is also a discount of a similar amount for an unemployed spouse or partner. Having children may also lead to additional tax bonuses.

Business license (Živnostenský list)
Who needs a Business License in Czechia?

Anyone working as a freelancer must obtain a Business Licence. Many companies prefer to work with freelancers or contractors, as this involves less paperwork and fewer obligations on their side.

What are free and regulated trades, and how do they affect the Business License?

These are selected as part of the Business Licence application. Regulated trades require certificates or qualifications to prove that you are authorised to provide the service. If your field is regulated, you must submit the necessary documents, translated and officially notarised.

Do I need to have any insurance for a Business License?

Yes, you are required to register for both social and health insurance when obtaining your Business Licence. Social insurance contributes to your state retirement fund, while several providers are available for health insurance.

Office accompaniment
What offices can you accompany me to?

We can accompany you to any government office, including MOI offices throughout the city. We can also join you for appointments such as specialist doctor visits or even trips to the hairdresser — it all depends on your needs.

What do I need to bring on such a trip?

Bring any relevant documents. It is always better to have too much than to realise something important was left at home when an official requests it.

What kind of language support do you provide on these trips?

You will be accompanied by a Czech speaker who can communicate with officials and translate information clearly into English. Please note that we are not officially certified translators.
